YMCA Family Fun Day

On Saturday 16th July 2022 YMCA Newark & Sherwood celebrated the official launch of our Community & Activity Village building.

We hosted FREE activities for young people, had live music and entertainment acts hosted by Radio Newark as well as a range of food and drink refreshments provided by local artisan vendors.

A chance for everyone to see inside our new building and enjoy a fun day at the YMCA Village.

As well as LIVE entertainment and fun activities we had the pleasure of showing the community inside our brand-new building.

Guided tours took place throughout the day which allowed us to showcase our fantastic new facilities and what activities, classes and sessions will be hosted from them very soon.

Soft archery, football skills, rowing races, boxing, rugby, dodge ball and much more on the Stadia Football pitch

LIVE entertainment

Live music from Flipside, DJ sets and entertainment hosted by Radio Newark

Food and Drinks

Locally sourced food and drinks from a variety of artisan stalls

Fun Activities

We had lots of FREE sporting activities for young people to enjoy throughout the day.

  • Our very own YMCA Camp Williams team will brought along the Gaga Pit (dodge ball) and soft archery, just two of the fun activities that happen at Camp Williams during school holidays
  • Our sporting partner You Can Do Sport Academy, hosted football, boxing, netball and rugby skills, with Newark Rowing Club bringing rowing machines for races
  • Nicola from Pure Steel, ran music sessions for children to try their hand performing in a steel band
  • The amazing YMCA Camp Williams staff also brought our outdoor climbing wall, giving young people a taster for climbing ahead of our brand-new Climbing Centre opening at the Village in September 2022.

Live Entertainment

Vicky Cozens and Tony Roberts from Radio Newark hosted live entertainment outside our brand new YMCA Café, with

  • Live music from Flipside – a popular local band, who formed back in 2006. Flipside bring their own unique flavour to soul and funk classics as well as everything in-between performing a wide variety of covers
  • Two sets from DJ Tony Jones
  • Performance from three times Crufts winner and 8th in the world, Nicci Hindson, with her dog Rory.

Food and drink

YMCA Café will be opening for the very first time serving drinks, snacks, and coffee from our new local supplier Stewarts Coffee.  As well as local artisan food and drink stalls to choose from outside:

  • Prad Thai

Official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

On Friday 15th July 2022, we had an official ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the opening of our Village and to thank local businesses, partners, colleagues and suppliers who have contributed to creating the ground-breaking new facility over the past 18 months.

Our Group’s Chair of Trustees Michael McKeever opened Friday’s event with a speech reflecting on the history of the project and how it aligns with the YMCA’s vision for the future, followed by speeches from Executive Director Todd Cauthorn and Ambassador Veronica Pickering, before Michael McKeever cut the ribbon to welcome guests into the building.

After the ribbon cutting, guests were invited to take guided tours of the building and had the chance to enjoy fantastic local food and drink, kindly made by our Head Chef David Ross and his team in our new Events & Conference Suite.

Our Events & Conference Suite will be available for hire for any and all events you may wish to host here at the Village. From conferences to weddings, birthday parties to award ceremonies, our team are on hand to make your event a reality.
