Reasons to volunteer:
There are many reasons you might wish to volunteer. Maybe you need work experience or are working towards a qualification such as Duke of Edinburgh. You might want to volunteer as part of your college or university course, or maybe you are wanting to try out a new career or gain skills to support your search for paid employment. Here at the YMCA we can support them all.

Where could you volunteer with us?
YMCA Robin Hood Group has a variety of areas where you could volunteer.
- The Community & Activity Village in Newark incorporates a Café, Nursery, Gym and Climbing Wall.
- Get involved with Sports Coaching or Youth Programming.
- Help with fundraising and events.
- We have supported housing across Nottinghamshire and East Yorkshire, including accommodation in Nottingham City, Mansfield, Sutton in Ashfield, Worksop and Goole.

Are you a student looking for work experience?
Within our Community & Activity Village in Newark, we are able to offer work experience for children in years 10 and 12 with local schools during their work experience weeks. Your work experience at the Community & Activity Village will give you a complete experience of working at the Village with time spent on our reception desk, helping to coach sports sessions, working in the café and even in our climbing centre.
We also offer separate work experience within our Nursery at the Community & Activity Village for those with a specific interest in working with children.
To ensure you have the best experience during your time with us, we can only support three students at any one time and slots are given out on a first come first served basis. If you are interested in coming to the YMCA for your work experience, please contact your school or email us at volunteers@ymcarhg.org
If you are looking for Internships or Placement years to support your College or University studies, please contact us and share some ideas of the type of placement we might be able to support you with and we will be happy to consider this.

Who can volunteer?
Whilst there are no criteria you need to meet to volunteer, you would need to be at least 14 years old, with some of our roles needing volunteers to be over the age of 18. We are a Disability Confident employer and have signed up to the Age Friendly Employers-Pledge. Regardless of your background, we would value your life experiences and the contribute to you could make to YMCA Robin Hood Group.
For most roles, you would need to undertake an enhanced DBS search; should you have a criminal conviction for any offence, please do not let this put you off volunteering with us. We believe in the power of restorative justice and rehabilitation and would be happy to discuss the best way for you to volunteer with us to support your life goals.

I have a disability, can I still volunteer?
As a Disability Confident employer, we will do everything we can to accommodate your needs to ensure your health and well-being is paramount while you volunteer with us. Please share with us the adjustments you require and we will try to accommodate those as best as we can.

How much time do I need to commit to volunteering?
Depending on the type of volunteering activity you do, this could be as little as an hour a week or a few hours a month; volunteering can be flexible and we can work to accommodate your availability.

What type of activities could I expect to get involved with?
We have a wide range of options available. You could support with fundraising at events, provide admin support to one of our teams or volunteer in our nursery playing and reading with the children. You could provide a particular skills from your background to help support the adults in our supported accommodation learn a new skills or helping coach youth football sessions, there’s an opportunity for you to do something you love to make a difference to someone’s life.
