YMCA Strength and Conditioning Coach, Reb, recently travelled to Las Vegas to compete at the Masters Weightlifting World Championships, hosted by USA Masters Weightlifting. The event brought together more than 1,000 lifters from around the globe, and Reb proudly represented both Team GB and Nova Performance Barbell Club.

Reflecting on the competition, Reb said:

“It was the highest-level weightlifting competition I’ve ever done, and I was astounded to qualify after only a year or so of focus on Olympic lifting. With so many incredible lifters there, imposter syndrome hit hard at first – but I was proud to step up and represent Team GB.”

Reb finished 6th in the world in Olympic lifting and went on to achieve a personal best deadlift, earning a medal and securing 4th place overall in the strength category.

“I was happy with my snatch, even though my last attempt didn’t quite go to plan. The clean and jerk was tougher! Finishing with a PB deadlift and coming 4th overall was a huge highlight.”

Beyond the lifting platform, Reb also celebrated the chance to connect with the wider weightlifting community:

“Once my lifting was out of the way, I had a lot of fun with the Nova crew and got to watch some amazing performances. It was such a privilege to be part of it all.”

This achievement marks a huge milestone in Reb’s journey and an inspiring example for our YMCA community of what’s possible with dedication, resilience, and the right support.
