July marked an important milestone for 22 children at YMCA Nursery, as they celebrated their graduation and prepared to take their next steps into primary school this September.
Now in our second year, the graduation is a proud tradition at YMCA Nursery, with many of this year’s children having been with the nursery since they were babies. This year’s celebration was themed ‘Under the Sea’ with ocean-inspired decorations, and a sea of smiling faces as families gathered to mark the occasion.

Each child received a graduation certificate recognising their achievements and development during their early years journey. Joe Piliero, Director of Hospitality at YMCA, stepped in to present the certificates, greeting each graduate to applause and cheers from their families.

“Elsie has been part of the YMCA Nursery since she was about two. It’s been amazing to watch her grow, make friends, and develop her personality. Graduation day was emotional — it really hit me how far she’s come. The nursery team have been such a big part of our lives.” Marc Gray.
Families enjoyed refreshments after the presentation, with many taking the chance to thank the team who had played such a key role in their child’s early years.

“Seeing this group graduate was especially touching because many of them have grown up with us — we’ve watched them take their first steps, say their first words, and form their first friendships. We’re incredibly proud of each child, and while we’ll miss them, we know they’re ready for what comes next.” Catherine Shotton, Operations Manager – Early Years and Childcare.
The event reflected the strong sense of community that defines the YMCA our nursery, a place where children are encouraged to grow, learn and thrive in a supportive and engaging environment.
We’re so proud that our Nursery is a popular choice for families in the local community, known for its nurturing environment and focus on building children’s confidence, independence, and social skills, giving them the best possible start as they prepare for school. There is currently a waiting list for baby places, but spaces are available now for pre-school age children starting this September.
