At YMCA, we’re passionate about supporting young people in their career journeys, and our apprenticeships offer an incredible opportunity to gain hands-on experience while working towards a qualification. This year’s theme, ‘Skills for Life,’ emphasises how apprenticeships can boost both colleagues’ and managers’ performance and engagement in their current roles, all while earning valuable, recognised qualifications.
Today, we’re shining a spotlight on one of our dedicated childcare apprentices, Minnie Richardson, who started her journey with us in September 2024.
A Passion for Childcare
After finishing their GCSEs, Minnie completed a week of work experience at the YMCA nursery—and that week inspired her to continue down the childcare route. “I really loved my time here and knew that working with children was what I wanted to do. When I was offered an apprenticeship, I jumped at the chance!”
Making a Difference in Early Years Education
One of the standout moments for Minnie so far was helping our preschool children with their Christmas show! “Teaching them carols and seeing them perform for their parents was so special,” she shared.
Support Every Step of the Way
At YMCA, we believe in fostering a supportive environment for our apprentices to help them learn and grow in their careers. “The team has been amazing. They always check in on me and help with my college work whenever I need it.”
Why Choose an Apprenticeship?
For anyone considering an apprenticeship, Minnie’s gives her advice: “It’s a fantastic way to gain real-life experience while working towards a qualification. I would definitely recommend it!”
Looking to the Future
With ambitions to complete her Level 3 in Childcare, she’s aiming for a career as a teacher or a Norland nanny—an inspiring goal that we can’t wait to see her achieve!
